The packaging claims that they can hold 20 pounds... each... and it claims that each 1 1/2 diameter clip can hold 50 sheets of paper. I thought to myself, "I'll believe it when I see it". Let me tell you what though! They DELIVERED in a BIG way! I always struggled to keep our behavior chart up in the past using other clips. It seemed like every time a kiddo moved a clip up or down, the whole chart came tumbling down resulting in a mess of clothespins and an unnecessary (yet seemingly unavoidable) distraction. It drove me twelve kinds of crazy on a fairly regular basis. I am happy to say that after a few months with this set of clips, we haven't had a single clip catastrophe. The worst thing that happens from time to time is a little slipping and sliding from the lamination film, but that is easily remedied without a complete mess. I probably don't need to use three-fourths of the clips on my behavior chart, but it's worth the peace of mind to me, just knowing that it's not going anywhere, no matter how many kids are tugging at the chart at any given time. Thank goodness!
So, here they are in action! They come in primary colors, which was my only reservation initially. It may sound absurd, but I am kind of a stickler when it comes to fully committing to a color scheme. I was slightly worried about the clips clashing with the rest of my decor, but as you can see, they fit in just fine with our behavior chart's rainbow colors. You can consider me a very happy camper!
This photo is nice because it helps you see all four magnets in one shot. I use the blue magnet to hold up our special rotation signs. There are five laminated signs made out of card stock, so they are relatively hefty, but again, the stack of paper is no match for the magnetic clip. This picture also paints a clear picture of how much smaller and daintier the magnets are compared to my other magnetic clip. What you can't see is how much stronger they really are, despite their small packages.
I've been known to buy magnets simply because they are cute. You can see the glass magnets I purchased at TJ Maxx simply because of their aesthetics. While they are really pretty, truthfully, they don't get very much use because they don't pull very much weight. So, they weren't the most practical choice for classroom magnets.
The metal clip is missing an embellishment that fell off over time. It actually one of the magnets I used to attach to my heavy classroom management ladder before it got the axe and was relegated to holding single signs and the occasional anchor chart.
This is just a scratch on the surface, but nonetheless, you can certainly see that I love me some magnets! :) Ha! The magnetic clips on the right were from Walmart years ago. They are the same as the previous magnet... but they haven't lost their embellishments yet! As aforementioned, they were my strongest magnets for a WHILE, but they just didn't cut the mustard when it came to holding up heavy duty items. The pink and black metal clips were purchased at Staples this summer. I like the way they look, and they are a little stronger than my Walmart clips, but they kind of annoy me when they open and close. I am pretty sure that I just outed myself in Blogland, because yes, I have a few quirks and idiosyncrasies. BUSTED! Anyway, that set of magnets is a little on the jerky side. They always make me think of the Tin Man without any oil... which I realize probably isn't the most quote unquote "normal" thought to equate with magnets. It's not my favorite thing in the world though, so usually these magnets are relegated to items with more of a permanent or long-term locale. The pink rectangular magnets were a Target Dollar Bin steal, and although they are cute, they are sad, weak little magnets. Like the Screech Powers of Magnets, if you will.
Sometimes, I admittedly buy cutesy magnets just as decorative accents. The plastic hearts were another Walmart buy, and the flowers are from Target. They hold an occasional memo or chart, but they basically have a home in my classroom because they are adorable.
It probably goes without saying, but I have a wide array of magnets in my little classroom oasis. Some of them are eye candy, some of them are sufficiently useful for everyday use, and some of them are workhorses. The Super Strong Magnetic Clips definitely live up to their name. They are super strong, and they are the resident workhorses in my classroom. If you are a magnet snob or a magnet connoisseur, I highly recommend them for your classroom needs. I love, love, love them, and I know you will too! To score a set for your own classroom, enter via Rafflecopter below! ReplyDeleteI look purely for strength! I have a silver magnet like the one of yours that was demoted :) that hangs on my door facing for our secretary to hang my "office envelope" on each afternoon. If I have very many notes, she has to walk it in the room because it is too heavy for the clip :(
ReplyDeleteMy team teacher and I have just started our brand new blog (Teachers with APPtitude) and we are also hosting a giveaway for a $10 TpT Gift Certificate! www.teacherswithapptitude.blogspot.com if you want to check it out and enter :)

ReplyDeleteStrength! But I wish I had more board space for everything.
ReplyDeleteI too am addicted to magnets. I have been making my own to get the cute factor. But I can never find good, strong clip-type magnets!

You do have a magnet collection! I thought I was bad, but I think you have me beat! I love to have a strong one. My favs are the ones with the eyes and the nose that you grab. I also have made some of my own with big old buttons and strong magnets from Walmart.

I use clips on my magnetic chalkboard to collect homework, so I need my clips to hold multiple papers and not slide around.
ReplyDeleteI have a magnet collection as well, although I LOOVE the primary colors. I look for strength mostly, but if it's strong and won't match, I don't buy it (OCD touches here and there!) My favorites are the magnet men. I can put a whole chart paper pad under 2 and they hold!
ReplyDeleteI love magnets, but I have a difficult time finding ones that are both cute and strong. Most of the time, they are always one or the other. :( I could really use these magnets! I think they'll do the trick. :)
ReplyDeleteMy kids love white board markers with magnets, words that are magnetic, and designs that can make cool patterns. I do not have any magnets that go on my white board (yet) so this gives me something to think about!
ReplyDeleteI look for magnets that are colorful, cute, and most of all, strong! Love how they brighten up a room...and an attitude. :) Thanks for the opportunity to win some from Learning Resources...love, love their products!
