Happy Classrooms ROCK: A Giveaway!

I am pretty sure I have been singing since I could talk, and music has always been a HUGE part of my life! At one point, my life was a lot like Glee (minus the never-ending show choir budget and crazy evil cheerleading coach).  I LIVED to sing, dance, and compete whenever I wasn't at cheerleading or track or one of my other clubs.  I also LOVED to sing at my church for praise and worship and special music!  I loved it so much that I actually tried out for American Idol once upon a time... when my voice was MUCH stronger than it is now.  :)  My dad nagged me incessantly about trying out, and since I am a daddy''s girl I decided to chalk it up as an experience.  Plus, it was really fun because I tried out with three of my old high school friends!  It was a hoot, and NOTHING like it appears on television! Yes, that sad girl who overdosed on self-tanner is me.  {So embarrassing!}  What an experience though!  If you ever want to know what it's like to not sleep for 48 hours straight and you are still young enough, try out for American Idol.  Goodness Gracious!

I tried out in Cleveland when I was 20-ish.  This is my high school BFF equivalent of Kurt Hummel.  We tried out together!
This is the chaos that ensues at an audition.  Just imagine this in every nook and cranny of Brown's stadium.   Crazy Town!
Now I know that lots of us have issues with confidence when it comes to singing.  It didn't happen for me right away, but eventually hateful comments got to me.  I lost my confidence one snide comment at a time.  I also didn't want anyone to think I was a show off, so I stopped singing.  I didn't want to deal with it non-stop, so I just stopped cold turkey.  Now I only sing  at church or in my car when I'm alone or the volume is so loud that nobody can hear me, and you know what?  My voice is not what it used to be!  Fortunately, kids don't care what you sound like!  They just like the happiness you can get from singing and listening to music, so it's one of my favorite things to incorporate in the classroom.  :)  I have to admit though, creating my newest Strategy Songs packet was a BIG deal for me, and so was posting my Inference Song FREEBIE.  It was really scary to put myself out there on MP3s... especially since I'm not the singer I used to be... but the point is... it doesn't matter what you sound like.  Singing is fun... and it's a great tool for memory retention and learning!  Think about it.  I bet you could still sing a song from your childhood if you heard it on the radio... even if you haven't heard it in YEARS!  Music is SO powerful!  :)

Of course, I was beyond excited when I found out that my sweet friend Hope also recently posted a packet of learning songs!  While my packet addresses reading strategies exclusively, Hope's packet addresses several different skills across disciplines.  I also LOVE that it was a collaborative unit with her hubs!  Seriously, how adorable is that?!  Cute as pie!!! :)  It is a fabulous unit too, and I can't wait to use the songs with my own kiddos.  I plan on tying the Communities songs in next week for sure!

Since we are so excited about incorporating these units into our classrooms, we wanted to give these units away to some of our wonderful followers through a little FLASH giveaway! It will go by super fast, so check it out right away!
